It’s finally done!!  Getting our house ready to sell was just the push we needed to finish up all the little details of the enormous DIY built-ins we’ve been working on (forever) in our daughter’s room.  So, without further ado, here is the finished room!

Room Reveal!

Isn’t it beautiful! Although this project was a huge one, and took up a lot of our free time, and caused plenty of frustration along the way, we are very proud of how it turned out.

If you’ve been following along, you’ve witnessed the initial design, and then the building of the side cabinets, daybed, trundle, and bookshelves.  It’s been a long journey of measuring, cutting, assembling, and mostly painting…so much painting. As a reminder, here is what the room looked like before we started (mess and all!).

Wrapping Up Our DIY Built-ins Project

Building the daybed, built-in cabinets, and bookshelves went pretty smoothly. Very time consuming, but relatively straightforward.  However, then came the crown moulding… No matter how hard we try, we always struggle with crown moulding. I really feel like it shouldn’t be that hard, but it’s our nemesis.  We ultimately had to throw in the towel and pay someone to do it for us.

You may also notice that the walls have a new color! Our daughter really liked the turquoise walls, but our realtor thought a more neutral color would work best. It does look nice.

These DIY built-ins allowed us to remove a dresser and tall bookcase from the room, which made the entire space feel much bigger. The built-ins make the entire room feel more cohesive with the “furniture” now all being white. And, the built-ins added so much character – now the room looks amazing because it is unique.

It feels fantastic to finally have  these DIY built-ins finished. My daughter loves it, and we are super happy with the way it turned out.
