Bookshelves and Cabinets and Trim, Oh My!

Happy Memorial Day everyone!  It is so fantastic having an extra day in the weekend.  We had a great mix of fun and work these past few days.  We took a day-trip to Carmel (one of our favorite places) with the kids and our 14-year-old dog, and we also got a ton of stuff done in my daughter’s room.  I can now say that I see the light at the end of the DIY tunnel. We are close…very close to being done.

We finished painting the shelves for the built-in bookcases in my daughter’s room and installed them.  They should be thoroughly dry in a few days and ready for all of her books and “treasures.”

We also installed our homemade cabinet doors.  Now, I’m not gonna lie.  That task was awful!  Those cabinet doors fought back…for the first 90 minutes they just plain refused to cooperate.  But, we prevailed in the end, and they look pretty darn good.

And finally, we installed some 1×2 trim around the bookcases, the decorative trim and knobs on the trundle, and a custom baseboard for the cabinets and drawers. I finished off the weekend-of-work by caulking and filling nail holes.

When we stood back to look at the room tonight, I thought, “Wow!  We’ve come a long way.”  I don’t want to get too far ahead, but I’m sensing a room reveal in the very near future.
